Raagaverse is a JUNO nominated Indo-Jazz fusion ensemble led by vocalist and composer Shruti Ramani with the support of pianist and composer, Noah Franche-Nolan. Rooted in Hindustani classical tradition and shaped by contemporary improvisation, Raagaverse creates a musical world where ancient melodic frameworks meet lush harmony, rhythmic fluidity, and an ever-evolving sense of storytelling.
Shruti and Noah’s partnership began in Vancouver, sparked by a shared curiosity for exploring the spaces where genres overlap and collide. Shruti’s musical foundation is deeply shaped by her years in Mumbai studying Hindustani classical music under Dr. Ritu Johri of the Agra Gharana, and later by her formal training in jazz voice at Capilano University. Noah brings a wide-ranging background as a pianist, improviser, and composer whose work spans jazz, classical composition, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Together, they form the creative centre of Raagaverse, guiding the ensemble with a vision grounded in sincerity, experimentation, and musical dialogue.
Raagaverse first took shape after a performance in January 2022 with Shruti, Noah, bassist Jodi Proznick, and drummer Nicholas Bracewell. Their chemistry shaped the ensemble’s early sound, blending Hindustani raaga with contemporary improvisation and narrative-driven composition. The group’s debut album, Jaya (2024), grew out of this foundation and received critical attention, including a JUNO nomination. We remain deeply grateful for the original members’ artistry and for the role they played in forming the identity of Raagaverse.
As Raagaverse continues to evolve, the ensemble has welcomed two remarkable new collaborators: bassist James Meger and drummer Trent Otter. Their musical voices bring new colour, depth, and a spirit of openness that expands the ensemble’s sonic landscape. With their arrival, Raagaverse steps into a vibrant new chapter marked by greater momentum, curiosity, and artistic possibility. This phase of renewal comes with an ambitious slate of new projects. Shruti and Noah are currently shaping Raagaverse’s second full-length album, developing a Bollywood-inspired project that lovingly reimagines classics through the ensemble’s unique perspective, and preparing for multiple tours across Canada and beyond in 2026.
A drummer with a strong work ethic and diverse influences, Trent plays with many different artists across Canada. From Jazz to Pop to R&B, he has shared the stage with Matt Storm, Katie Tupper and Mikey Jose as well as groups such as John Korsrud's Absolute Unit, Mary Ancheta Quartet, and Bungalow.
